Even if you’re traveling for the holidays you can still get fit away from home. Below are some great tips on how to stay in shape during holiday travel.
If you’ve got some resistance bands, a jump rope or some small hand weights make sure you pack ‘em along with you. Be sure you also add some exercise clothes, shoes, and an mp3 player so you’ve got your favorite music with you. If you’re going to be staying at a hotel, call ahead and make sure they have a fitness center you can use. Many hotels will even bring fitness equipment to your room as a free service.
If you’re staying with your family or friends and there’s no way you can make it to a gym, you can still get in a great workout. You can go for a run, do some pushups, or even a few sets of crunches and you’ll get a great full body workout. If you’re at a hotel without a gym, then work out in your room and take the stairs instead of the elevator. If the hotel has a pool then you can get in some laps – just make sure you pack your swimming suit.
Eating right is perhaps the hardest thing to do while traveling. Be prepared and pack along non-perishable healthy snacks such as protein bars, meal replacements, trail mixes and other convenient healthy snacks. By doing this you’ll be able to avoid snacking on junk food on the road or at the airport. If you’re staying in a hotel then find a local grocery store and stock up on some healthy foods.
There are a lot of ways to use technology to help you keep fit on the road during the holidays. If you’ve got a DVD player nearby then take a long your favorite workout DVD. You can even pack along a video game system such as the Wii and workout using Wii fitness. The Wii also has several fitness titles to choose from that are a lot of fun and provide a great workout. There are also several apps you can download on your mobile phone that provide a ton of free workout ideas.
So even if you’re traveling for the holidays there’s no reason you can’t keep in shape.
